Welcome to the Hatherleigh Area Surestart Children’s Centre!
If you live locally, are a parent, grandparent or carer of children 0-5 then this is for you.
We are a former mini Surestart pilot programme that was started in April 2002, as a direct result of the devastating effects that the 2001 foot and mouth crisis had on our community. Hatherleigh Children’s Centre is now part of the current Governments pledge to have a Children’s Centre in every community. Each Children’s Centre aims to provide a range of services for parents to be, parents and carers and their children aged 0-5. It also needs to identify and deliver services that are appropriate to its own community whilst actively encouraging the involvement of parents, grandparents and carers.
Our Children’s Centre has its own playroom, meeting room, toy library & parent’s information room within the Hatherleigh Community Centre building. We also have a van to help us provide outreach services to toddler groups and preschools within our catchment area.
Our area is defined by the catchment areas of these four primary schools within the Okehampton Learning Community. They are: Hatherleigh, Exbourne, Northlew & Boasley Cross.
