Welcome to the Hatherleigh Area Surestart Children’s Centre!
If you live locally, are a parent, grandparent or carer of children 0-5 then this is for you.
We are a former mini Surestart pilot programme that was started in April 2002, as a direct result of the devastating effects that the 2001 foot and mouth crisis had on our community. Hatherleigh Children’s Centre is now part of the current Governments pledge to have a Children’s Centre in every community. Each Children’s Centre aims to provide a range of services for parents to be, parents and carers and their children aged 0-5. It also needs to identify and deliver services that are appropriate to its own community whilst actively encouraging the involvement of parents, grandparents and carers.
We provide services to all families with children 0-5 within our current area. Although based in Hatherleigh, we include a much wider area of approximately 120 square miles. At present this includes the 11 parishes of Hatherleigh, Beaworthy, Inwardleigh, Northlew, Highampton, Meeth, Broadwoodkelly, Exbourne, Iddesleigh, Jacobstowe and Monkokehampton. We deliver these services at our purpose built centre in Hatherleigh, and by our mobile outreach services with our trusty van to rural village halls and existing local groups.
